Hello all, I have been planning on upgrading the speakers in my 05 Ex. Im curious if anyone has put 8 inch speakers where the 3rd row speaker location is. I haven’t pulled the panel off to look yet and haven’t been able to find any info. Thanks for any info.
I believe that they are 6x8 speakers, the same size as in the doors. I replaced my door speakers with that size but I did not replace my third row, however looking at the photo posted I would say that was the size, BUT that is just an educated guess.
Subscribing! Post up more pics if you can 01_EX, that tear-down looks pretty thorough.
I just posted those pics for him to get an idea of the speakers. I no longer have that V-10, I bought it from the dealer as an abandoned vehicle needing a transmission, I bought a Ford reman tranny, installed in my driveway, made some other repairs, cleaned the interior, made some interior improvements, and decided I no longer needed it. Look for my current thread on my 7.3.
I just replaced all 6 speakers and they are all 6x8's. I have heard of people fitting 6x9's, but I wanted a direct replacement. Skar TX68's sound amazing compared to stock.
To answer OP's question, of course 8" subs will fit....with enough dedication and fabrication. Oh, and the money thing.
I got a set of 6 6x8 Pionner 4-way speakers shortly after getting my Excursion. Replaced the stereo, and door speakers. Then I saw the work required to replace the back pair and . . . well let's just say the new speakers are still sitting on my bench. Just 4 new ones and upgraded stereo made a gigantic difference though.

I just replaced the rear (mid panel) speakers yesterday. Honestly, it's not as bad as it initially seemed. You don't have to completely remove the panels. You only have to pull the front of the panels away from the body. Use a block of wood about 10" long to hold the panel in place while installing the speaker. You will have to remove the 2nd row seat belts from the pillar and the 3rd row seat belts from the floor.
