I recently purchased a '00 X and wanted to replace the stock speakers. When I contacted Crutchfield, they stated that they don't carry any speakers that will fit due to the low clearance between the speaker and the door panel. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wanted to upgrade the sound system and was curious as to what others may have found that work. Any and all information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
The clearance problem is only with the front speakers. I purchased 3 pairs of Boston Acoustics rc820’s, which is a speaker component set. Meaning Tweeter and speaker are separate. However the tweeter can be directly mounted onto the speaker or installed in another location. I am not sure how into your audio you are but these speakers were expensive. I placed the speaker in the stock location in the front and mounted the tweeter in the kick-panel for better imaging. The rear doors and side panel I just placed the speakers in the stock location and mounted the tweeters on top of the speaker. I will try to get a picture. Take your X to a reputable stereo shop and ask them for some good advise. Then buy them on-line.
