Here is what it says at www.amsoil.com: Ford MERCON* LV, SP, ULV; That is very, very different than Type F. I would be surprised if you made it 100 miles before a trans failure if you used this in a trans that needs Type F.

It is what Amsoil recomended for my automatic AOD 4 speed, based off the internet it takes mercon V. I try to use Amsoil whenever I replace fluids, I want to make the truck last forever. Though I may be completely wrong. Though I do see the spot where it says not for type f now. But the AOD 4 speed doesn’t take type f right? It takes Mercon V?

This is what Napa says to use. I’m not seeing anything that says specifically type f fluid? Is this stuff hard to find?

The AOD should use MERCON V, not Type F.

Oh sorry, I forgot to mention it’s for the power steering pump, I have done the trans already.

Use any type auto trans fluid in the p/s pump. Or you could use power steering fluid, it's the same thing with no red dye.

type "F" trans fluid was for 1977 and older ford automatic transmissions.
since late 77 early 1978 ford went to dextron/mercon ATF.
my 66 falcon uses type "F"
my 78 F350 uses dextron/mercon

For ATF it is critical to go with fluid that is approved by the manufacturer of the transmission to protect its seals. I have used a different ATF on my Chevy transmissions than what what is specified for my Ford and it was different for my Chevy diesel with its Allison transmission. I needed to go to an Allison shop to get the best ATF for my truck as what was used at the local Chevy dealer was inferior.

Amsoil has excellent advertising but mediocre products. Their diesel motor oil is one of the worst on the market with a very inferior additive mix. The only premium motor oil that is actually very good is Red Line with its diesel motor oil.

As a fan of oil analysis by Blackstone Labs I don't recall seeing any information regarding Amsoil's condition after changed at an engine or transmission's recommended change interval. That's quite curious IMHO.
