I’m having a problem with my rear brakes on my 2017 F150 with electric parking brake. I replaced all of the brakes back in June. I’ve put about 10,000 km on it since. My right rear wheel started scraping. The brakes are completely gone on the right rear side and destroyed the rotor. My local auto supply shop is going to cover the pads and rotor under warranty. But only one rotor since it’s only one that wore badly. The pins slide good, the caliber pushed back easily without a lot of force and the pads were easy to take out of the brackets. Now my questions. I will be replacing both sides of pads, but is it ok to only replace the one rotor since the other is good? Also I did tow a trailer that was about 5500-6000 pounds a few times and the trailer brakes were out of adjustment so my truck did do more do more braking. Could this be the cause of only the right side wearing? I might add that both pads were completely worn. Thanks for any input.
Yeah, if the other rotor is good, you'll be fine. When you did the install, did you make sure you cleaned where the pins ride, then clean and re-lube the pins? Also, make sure you "burp" the rubber seals on the caliper pins. Air pressure, or excess grease can cause the pins or pins to not move freely which will cause a pad to rub. I did my brakes a few months ago, but mine has a mechanical parking brake. The basics are the same though.
