Starter trouble.
when I went to start it while it’s cranking it sounds smooth. Now when the engine kicks and starts to run without assistance if the motor, it sounds like the motor is not disengaging fast enough.
The Solenoid is new and wired with the one on the starter. The only thing I noticed is that the ignition key is slightly sticky. Which posts in the solenoid do I touch to get it to turn over? (Never done this I apologize for the ignorance here)
I do not understand how the provided shim will help with the gear much as move it back away from the ring gear. Thanks!
If the ignition switch is sticking it may be the problem.
I have never seen a shim on a Ford starter.

I had a starter loose a tooth, and didn't know it.
If the engine didn't fire up instantly, and required cranking, the engine would stop suddenly, and kick back. Hmm
That missing tooth caused me more grief, until one day I pulled the spark plugs and turned over the engine to do a compression test.
The engine turned over to the missing tooth, and kicked back. Aha !!! _ _ bushswaggled again with starter issues, and thought I had timing issues.
You might lube your starter switch and check it with a trouble light. Also maybe try your shim provided. ?

Back on track with the OP- I too have a Power Master starter and I think another important piece is to have really good grounds for the three main components of your truck. Body to frame and frame to engine and engine to body. All my other harnesses are the repop versions from either LMC or DC and I haven't had any issues with my underdash harness ....yet. I agree with Dan about the shim- toss that joker into your spare parts bin.
it works great now, and no issues!!
I too got the repop harnesses for under the hood, and I made my own for the one for the taillights. My under dash harness is in excellent condition.
now that I have the engine bay wiring fresh and organized (finally) I need to go through and organize the under dash harness and add in the extras I have added.
