Cool Possessed Starter

After replacing my solenoid, I went to start my 88 Bronco and after it cranked for awhile I turned it off and took the keys out but it kept on turning until I disconnected the battery. Please Help Me!

You don't, by chance, have a remote start system do you? I was having the same type of problem and it turned out to be the remote start. Once I disconnected that, no more problems. Now it may be coincidence since I had to replace both my starter and solenoid twice but I'm fairly certain of the culprit.

Good luck!

Sounds like you either have a short to the trigger wire from the ignition switch or the return spring in your new solenoid is bad. Did it do this with the old solenoid? You can test the new solenoid by removing the connection that feeds the starter and haivng someone turn the key. You should hear the solenoid click, clunk, whatever, when the key is turned to "Start" AND when the key is released. If you don't, the solenoid is not returning to its static position when the key is released. So the connection to the starter is not being released when you release the key.

I could be the starter it self, the contact points in the starter will some times stick. Has the starter been in long? Also the plunger that ingauges the starter drive can hang up when the starter gets older. Both things happend to the starter on my 88 pickup when I had it. It would stick or continue to run

Chances are that it will be the solenoid on the fender well. Dont buy an after market one, they tend not to return to the open position (weak spring) it wont be the starter, Ford starters are not like Ch**y starters they dont have the solenoid on the starter for activation,
