Headlights and dashboard lights flicker on 1966 f100
Hi All,
I am new to the community and have already found it very informative and helpful. Thank you much for sharing your experiences. I have a 66 f100 basic model, 6cyl, 3 spd. The headlights and internal dashboard lights pulsate - never going out totally - just brightness dims slightly and rapidly. In general, the head lights are not far reaching, and I would like to brighten them up. In reading various threads, I have seen reference/link to an article on 'whiter is white and brighter is bright' that owners have used to get to brighter lights.
Two questions:
1) when using the links to the article (looks to be back in 2013), the links do not work. Would anyone have a link or a local copy of the article to share?
2) if I do what the article states do you think it would solve the pulsating? Maybe I need to work the two needs independently?
Very much appreciate your thoughts.
I look forward to learning and sharing.

You’ll need to get your flickering problems solved prior to upgrading the headlights. I bought a set of Hella E-Code halogen headlights, and a new upgraded headlight harness from Tom’s Bronco Parts. That harness has fuses and relays integral in the harness, allowing you pull, essentially, two new circuits directly from your battery. That greatly reduces the current the length of the path the electricity has to take to reach your headlights, meaning much less voltage drop. The wires used in the harness are also larger, also lowering the resistance and voltage drop. You will have much brighter headlights. Also, the harness from Tom’s comes with a diode which, if you leave it installed, allows the use of both high and low beams at the same time.
The E-code Hellas I bought from Susquehanna MotorSports, but you can source them many places. You can even use higher wattage lamps, if you dare. I am happy with the stock wattage lamps , they are vey bright when running both high and low beams at the same time.

Now Icant say if it helped as I added them before the truck was put on the road but I love the head lights on it over my 02 Durango that are junk from day 1.

I use one wire Delco alternators and ditch all the rotten wiring, worn alternator and voltage regulator. I would also recommend replacing old switches with new switches from the numerous suppliers currently available. I'd start with a new dimmer switch. I also make new battery, starter and ground cables. I also add a good ground between the cab and frame and another between the engine block and frame. This will solve a lot of mystery electrical issues. Take a few minutes and pull the bulkhead connectors on the fire wall and clean them up with a wire brush and carb cleaner, add a liberal amount of dielectric grease.
