chassis surface rust
haven't had a chance to look properly but I know some is there.
Can't do a complete bare chassis resto, just need suggestions as to how to tackle it, what products etc.
Thanks
Works great on all my vehicles.
If they are put on bare metal, they will not work as intended on clean shiny metal, metal fresh from the factory (with the rust preventative oil) or freshly painted metal. The metal needs to be etched at the very least and most of these say to apply a special prep for and clean metal spots before using the primary product.
Stuff marketed as undercoating should work on anything though.

I have access to a lift so I do it my self. There are shops around my area that offer the treatment as well. All thats needed to apply the oil is a spray rig and a compressor. I got the spray gun and wands off amazon with a different type of oil treatment named Fluid Film, as a kit. Fluid film is good stuff and I first used it on my work trucks. Its lanolin based and hangs on well. Only thing with Fluid Film that I did not like is the smell. Your truck will smell like a goat/ barn yard for about 2 weeks. I found the NH Oil coat products on line and its a local company for me and I always try to support local. They have a great line if products, mouse out , black and clear. I use them all and for different reasons and they all have a pleasant odor. So on my 68 F 100 I had surface rust on the bottom under side of the bed floor and here and there under the truck. I like the black formula for places like that. Follow the instructions on the container, spray it down with a good coat and your done. Surface rust turns black and is protected. So not the cure for all situations but ok for me. The mouse out formula really works great at keeping the mice away, has a mint oil in it and some other rodent deterrent . I now mix the black and mouse out 50-50 . On my newer trucks that do not have rust I use the clear and the mouse out 50-50. The winter road treatment chemicals they put on the roads here in the north east are nasty!
Now some will say the oils are bad and mechanics wont work on your rides with all the oil under there, yada, yada, yada. I do most my own work, and when I send my stuff off to a shop have had no complaints. Quite the opposite I get compliments on how rust free my trucks are! The stuff helps, but is not the cure all or the answer to all rust problems. It is easy for me to get done, so I do it and on the daily use trucks I treat em every fall. The re treat is easy as its just mostly touch up. So I feel its better than doing nothing and letting the rust get started in the first place. I put the 68 up in storage every winter. I have not had to re treat it for 2 seasons now, still looks good and protected and no mice!. Oh and the other thing to mention, if you want to get the coating off for some reason pressure wash with hot soapy water gets it done. Sorry for the long response but thats how I roll some times. JIM
I'm in rural Australia 6 hours away from any major city.
It rains ALOT over the winter months where I am and there is a moisture in the air during those months too.
My truck is pretty clean underneath but I want to be proactive.
This treatment seems like the best approach as I don't want to strip the chassis.
I don't have a lift, but I think I may still be able to do this, even though the truck has been lowered, I may have to use ramps and do it section by section.
Getting the products from the States might take a while though LOL.
Anyway, all food for thought.
Thanks again.
Yes sir thats the one!
