I have sanded down my entire truck frame ect, and now I am looking to apply some sort of rust preventaive/neutralizer on it, what should I use? I heard POR 15 was good stuff, but pretty expensive, what have some of you used that really knocked it out?
There's a new product out called KBS, check it out. It's less expensive than Rust Bullet or POR-15 and is a one step process. I'd recommend it to anyone.
I've tried rust bullet, rust doctor, and POR 15. So far I think POR 15 does the best job, but it sure is expensive. I don't want to have to make these repairs again for a long time, so I am willing to pay for the POR 15.
look into a product called zero rust. Its half the price of por and it works just as good. I painted my frame and under body with it almost a year ago and it still looks great, not a bt of rust.
Depends on what you want to do. There are rust converters and rust encapsulators. One turns rust into an inert black oxide wherever it comes into contact with rust. Rust encapsulator seals rust against the enviroment so there is no further rust formation. Or, you could use a rust converter first and then a rust encapsulator paint over that for heavy duty protection.
Now, I have only used the encapsulators by POR and Eastwood. Have also used Eastwoods Rust Converter. I can say the Converter does just what it is supposed to do. I have used the Encapsulators in a marine enviroment to protect against more rust formation on a ship. One thing I can say is that POR-15 cannot stand up against standing water while the Eastwood, after 2 years, is still going strong. Those are just plain facts I see every week. POR-15 is UV sensitive and Eastwood is not. The new Rust Reformer, from Rust-oleum, is also UV resistant and I have just started trials on that. Given as how it is less than 1/3 the cost of a can of Eastwoods I am curious. I pay out of my pocket for the restoration work I do on this National Monument, and it isn't cheap, so cost is a factor especially if effectiveness is equal.
