I see a propane tank?
I also see locking ring front wheels. Good. What about the rear wheels? Hard to see as the locking rings will face each other inside the duals. But it's worth checking. Widowmaker wheels were still around and you need to know if you have them before you fiddle with a tire.
There is a propane tank, its not ran to anything so I'm wondering if it was for auxiliary equipment. The rears are identical to the fronts, but I was planning on replacing all the wheels with a 22.5 alternative. I've had some older cabovers/medium dutys and prefer not to mess with any type of split rim.
I am more to date with the 385 series big blocks, this truck will be my hauler for my mach1, but I assume on the FE blocks a 390 long block will bolt in where a 330 is using the flywheel and accessory drives?
It would appear you'll have to get the FT flywheel "zero balanced" to work on the 390.
You also need to bring the front cover over as that is also an engine mount along with the bell. You can swap the 330 oil pan and pickup over to the 390. You will need a bushing for the front cover as the 390 crank snout is smaller than the FT.
As to front engine accessory drives, you probably can keep the 390 stuff as you don't have PS or air brakes....
That 330 will push it fast enough for the brakes and steering....run it a while. JMO.....
I plan to run it for a while, it seems to be in pretty healthy shape. I just have a 390 fe for a spare in case. I’ll definitely keep posting some updates as I get er all done up. Thanks again for all the info man!
Another question for you, I’m replacing some
leaking wheel cylinders and have not had much luck finding drums and shoes, I’m assuming there are no replacements?
I'll try to search some posts out or you can try your luck with the search feature--use the "Advanced Search" feature and limit your search to "posts" in this forum. Use a single word for the key word, like "shoes".
