Hi Blake, I've replaced them on two trucks, 52f3 and 50f1. I'm retired and have the attention span of a 6 year old, so I can really stretch any job out! I think if I really wanted to and stuck with it, i could do both sides in 8 hours. The welding Can't be rushed, and will take as long as cutting, cleaning, and clamping. The hourly rate would be what the market would bear. Are you thinking of a friend doing the work, or a body shop? I shudder at what tthe shop would charge. Good luck with your project. Larry
The scope of the job will depend on how the cab is sitting...mounted on the frame with a bed attached or sitting on a dolly by itself are a couple of options. The other cost driver is how much rot is found under the cab corners...cutting away the external sheetmetal is likely to expose another whole layer of rust that needs addressing. In contracting terms you can have either a "firm fixed price" or a "time and materials" contract. A job like this has too many variables for a person to place a price on it without factoring in all the costs that might occur. So what you end up with is a "best effort/time and materials' contract which places you on the hook to pay whatever it costs.
I just went through this on a 62 cab. Getting the pieces cut and fit took about 6 man hours or so. One important item was to carefully clean out the corners and spray weldthru primer in those areas . That itself took a couple hours. . welding , grinding and dolly work is a slow process to prevent warping, stretching, and requires skill and patience. Good luck with your project.
