I used one of them ony 54 years ago. The little battery got hot and swelled up. I haven't tried that again. If you're traveling with a good generator you shouldn't have a problem. If you suspect battery problems just park on a hill.

Fortunately I haven't had any issues of starting for the most part. I also have two optima batteries and they both fit easily in the battery compartment. So I always have a spare. Shoot, I could wire them in parallel and double my cranking amps.....
This little HALO works great. It's tiny but it easily jump starts a car. No need for another car or long cables.
On trips like to Truckstock I throw in my battery charger just in case. Never needed much on trips except having to pull my thermostat last summer....well and have plenty of oil on hand.
I've used on of those jump start pack on my F-2, no problem. Just like jump starting using a 12 volt car. Negative to negative, positive to positive. Things have changed a lot in 54 years, I would think the jump packs they have now are completely different animals.
I try to park pointing down hill whenever I can. I also use a 4x4 block to chock my rear wheel, I don't trust my parking brake 100%.
When I got my flat head powered 53 M100 6 yrs ago it was already 12 V with 6 V starter for who knows how long. Other than jamming the Bendix gear to the flywheel once so hard that it couldn't turn over it hasn't given me any problems so far. It barely spins before the engine starts. I have to add that I don't drive it a lot.
