2022 Halogen Headlight Bulb Replacement

I'd really like to get the ugly yellow halogen headlight bulbs and replace with some that are bright white. Has anyone done this? What bulbs did you use?

I wasted 80 bucks on two sets of LED replacement bulbs, and I didn't like the light dispersal compared to the halogens (beam pattern was pretty much non-existent). I ignored advice that halogen reflectors weren't made for LED's, and paid the price. I went back to the halogen bulbs. However, I bought what I thought were brighter and whiter halogens (Sylvania Ultra). Result? Absolutely no difference from the OEM halogen bulbs (which were Sylvania, as well, but I'm sure they were the low-cost versions). Well, at least I have some OEM halogen backups (and some spare LED bulbs that I can hopefully trade or resell).

But, yeah, if you happen to locate some "pure white" halogens, post up the brand and where you got them. But don't fall for the marketing hype of the Sylvania Ultras, they're not "brighter white" by any stretch of the imagination, IMHO...

I had GTR lighting LED's in my halogen housings. They were bright however I wasn't satisfied and did a OEM LED conversion and what a difference it made. I never realized what a garbage beam pattern I had before until I went legit. I tried the Morimoto crap housings and they were worse than LED's in halogen housings.

Osram, Sylvania and a few others make good after market bulbs but you have have to pick the ones that at least have a clear band in the middle of the glas envelope so the bulk of the light hit the reflectors unimpeded by those awful blue coating. if whole bulb is blue coated, do not buy it.

that being said, keep in mind that there is no free lunch. Any +100/130/150 bulb will burn out quicker. I always found the all clear Sylvania Xtra vision are a good balance of output and longevity. also, ford is known to use undersized wiring in headlamp harnesses so the hotshot bulbs are often starved for current.

It’s really bad that my 2004 Corolla headlamps destroys my 22 f250’s beam especially on high.

LED’s in halogen housing are very annoying, inconsiderate, and dangerous to oncoming drivers.
Just get some high output halogen bulbs.

That makes a lot of sense to me, as I noticed how puny those wires were when I last changed the bulbs. Made me wonder why the wire gauge was so small, compared to other vehicles I've owned. Could also explain why the OEM halogens look so dim and yellow.

Sadly, I don't think there's anything that can be done to increase the current, short of utilizing some relays powered by the battery, with heavier gauge wires to the headlights, and that are tripped by the existing headlight wires.

Hmm... sounds like a mini project to explore. I've got a few extra 30A relays laying around somewhere - if it's not pouring down rain this weekend I might just experiment

I have these in 2 superduties, a 2018 F150 and a sxs RZR . 10 years in my 04 F350 with no issues. 8000miles in my 22 F250, these are fanless and so far very reliable. No flickering drop in replacements . The pattern on my 22 F250 is definitely whiter, and reaches further than the Halogens. I got flashed with the stock Halogens just as much as these, main reason I believe is even on low beam these trucks have 4 lights on all the time. Flash them back and they usually get the point. If you don't like them send them back to Amazon

There's always big debates about this. I choose not to involve myself in them anymore.
That being said I began several years ago with Beamtech in a 2017. I have no real complaints about them. I've since moved on to Hikari. More money but a better beam pattern in my opinion. If you choose the LED bulb option make sure to adjust your lights. I found that the 2017 I used to have was adjusted as high as they would go right off the dealer lot.

I've had the Beamtechs in my 2019 for 60K miles no issues. I was flashed just as much if not more with the stock crappy halogens.

I get flashed in my wife's 2021 Explorer more than I do in truck. And I even lowered them in Explorer. There are those out there that just refuse to accept that there are good LED choices available if you do your research and of course aim properly.

I'll flash someone if their headlight aiming is excessively bad, otherwise I don't get too butthurt about it. I'm sure other folks think I'm on crack the way the auto dimmer behaves sometimes.

The day I picked my truck up it was getting on in the afternoon just before Christmas 2021. It was light when I arrived but dark when I drove off the dealer's lot. I had no idea the truck had auto dimming and didn't realize that it was an option on these trucks.
I figured it out quickly and left the auto on for the 55 mile ride home. That was enough to tell me that I didn't care for them. Fished around in the menu as soon as I got home and disabled that feature.

Just the contrary for me. Now that I have it, I want it on everything going forward.
