Caliper questions

Howdy!
I Have a 73 F250 camper special. I'm wanting to change the front duel piston calipers to the 78 style duel piston. (I'm not a fan of how the earlier styles hardware is set up -specificly the rubber bushings)

My question is -
- are the caliper mounting bracket for the 73 and 78 the same?
- any ideas or other options to change the calipers to a better set up?

Thank for any and all help

So you have this now, correct? What rubber bushings are you talking about? I am not sure about a 78/79 2wd F250 caliper bracket. But on a 77-79 4wd F250 the caliper mounts differently than this one in the diagram. On the 4wd the caliper is is installed and a (lock lip) on the top of the bracket and then a Caliper Support Key (looks like a T bar) is driven in to lock the caliper, followed by one bolt to hold the T bar in place.

Yes this is a single piston and a 5 lug, but the best pic of the Caliper support key install. Same key set up for a duel piston 4wd F250 caliper.

Maybe some one with a 77-79 2wd F250 will chime in and show us their caliper bracket. I BELIEVE I have seen a pic of the 2wd F250 caliper set up and it is reversed with the lock lip on the bottom and the T bar on the top. ??

So I believe the 78/79 caliper mount bracket is NOT the same as yours.

Yes, the top section is my set-up.
From further looking I've found that the brackets are different between those year ranges.
And then more looking showed the later model brackets are nigh impossible to get or ridiculously expensive.

So I'm looking to try any tips and tricks to keep the bushings seated (I have an idea to try)
Or options for a upgrade

I'm talking to a guy at AutoFab about their conversation kits.
Going to be getting one of their 3" lift kits for the front, if they have a decent caliper setup I may go with them
( 1- IF they have a duel or large caliper setup, AND
2- IF they even have something available for this large of a suspension)

I have a few options, including do nothing 😂. But looking for more info and ideas

I dont think I have seen any disc setup that had rubber bushings?
Are you sure they are not some type of seal to keep water & crap out from the bolt & brackets?
I have seen that on the GM setups, just a seal not a bushing.

I just finished working on a set of 73 front brakes including new calipers, rotors, pads, and lines. Could you post a picture of this bushing you're talking about? I don't recall seeing any.

Here are some photos, I hope that gives a better idea of the bushings.

Oh, OK, the ones that are pressed into the bracket. Gotcha. I think we were all imagining something that rode on the caliper bolts and sandwiched between the caliper and bracket.

That has to be some kind of seal I would think.
Wonder if you can get them from a parts store?
Might be part of a rebuild kit for the caliper?

What is 382290 - S (MM - 173 NA) as it looks like the part?
I just hope the "NA" is not what I think it is and if so NA just from the dealer.
If they are some kind of bushing to keep the play out from the caliper & bracket wonder if you could make something that would work?
If it was going to be Nylon it would have to be high temp so maybe brass and use a lot of brake grease.

Anit it fun owning something old

Was thinking of using some washers and drum brake springs to help keep them pressed into place as the caliper moves.
Will have to mock it up to see if I want to weld the washers to the springs to center them.

Any other ideas are welcome
