Well, I goofed the other night and backed into one of those short wooden posts that's about 2 ft tall above ground and buried about 3 ft below ground. As a result, I bent the passenger side of my rear bumper all out of whack and now I have a rear position sensor that keeps going off when I put it in reverse. I decided against filing an insurance claim as I don't need anymore money added to that bill. I was looking at car-part.com for bumpers out of salvage yards when I ran across a place called Truck Beds of Texas, located about 4 miles from my house. They have a huge selection of beds, tailgates, bumpers and even a few tail light assemblies for sale and are constantly getting more in all the time. They will ship to you and they use a private hauler to ship and Daniel was great to work with. They sell Ford, Chevy, GMC and Ram as well. I went by to look at what they had and I was surprised. They had approximately 30 beds standing on the front end, they had tailgates, tail lights, bumpers and more inside what I though was a small building. It was actually pretty big inside and not very crammed at all. Daniel also told me that he sometimes gets headlights in as well if you're looking for some LED headlights. He didn't have any LED taillights for my 17, but he said they come through every now and then on the beds and they just take them off and sell them. He wanted a much better price than new and they come as a whole assembly.
I am not affiliated with this company, but they were very helpful in providing a gently used rear bumper for a very reasonable price (much lower than advertised at car-part.com) and I was able to pick it up and take it home. If you're looking for a replacement bumper, tailgate, bed or tail lights, look these guys up and give them a call.
Similarly I have bought from ‘Beds and Bumpers’ ‘Hendrys’ in the Houston area.
If you ding one side of the rear bumper keep in mind its a 3 piece unit and you can get parts off ebay pretty cheap for it. Don’t throw away your dinged one…
I was actually surprised at how easy it was to remove and replace the bumper. Two nuts on each side and two screws in the middle above the hitch, disconnect some wires and it's off. And it's not that heavy. I remember bumpers on the older trucks you almost needed two people to swap them out. I did this by myself and I ain't no spring chicken anymore. Took me about 2 hrs to do it but I have the new bumper on and it looks great. I need to get a stone deflector for the passenger side of the rear fender of the bed, but other than that, everything else swapped right over. Once I figured out how to get the rear park sensors apart, it went pretty easy. The hard one was where the bumper was bent the worst. But it's all done and for way less than what insurance would have charged for it in raised rates. At least it's almost fixed for less than $300 at this point. Attached are the before and after pics. Looks much better with the new bumper on it. After backing into the post. New bumper installed.
I think I may break the old bumper down and save pieces cause these parts fit several other year models and someone may only need the left side or the top cover or something. I even have an extra trailer connector now!
Well, now to see what else i can screw up to spend money on!!!! Still gotta fix the rear slider window where it's come apart. Gotta get some good goop to hold it together.
Did the same for the 2012 F-350 I had, but it was a painted shell. I wound up having to repaint the front bumper too so pulled all the bumpers off when I did the cross support repairs on the bed and just painted everything at once. The oonly downside to a King Ranch or Platinum, painted bumpers. Have to pull the front off the F-450 to repair rust spots and chips, and repair a scratch on the rear passenger side.
