Switching from cast iron to aluminum heads allowed for about a 1 point increase in compression ratios on the same octane gas. All those old engines 350’s, 351’s, 454’s, 460’s etc had cast iron heads. Sodium filled valves have also allowed for higher compression ratios.

The sodium valves is something I have limited exposure to.

Does both Ford’s 7.3 and 6.8L get the sodium valves?

Not sure, but probably not. I think my 2017 Corvette had them. Problem with sodium filled valves is they’re more prone to breaking.

My only exposure was track talk. I’m not sure I ever saw them. It is not new technology and I too thought they were not reliable just for seasonal 1/4 mile strip use?

If they are not in these Ford motors then how can it help these motors with knocks?

Is it even still true that performance comes with advanced timing?

Ford world is bizzaro to me. Tall gears are best, retarding timing is best, lifted leveled trucks are best pullers, gas motors must never rev above 1000 rpm, 10 gears means lock out the high 3. It really confuses me in Fordville.

I looked over service paperwork. My first knock sensor issue was a P0325 code, knock sensor malfunction sensor 1 bank 1. Warranty replaced the knock sensor. The second issue was about a year later with a P032C code, Knock sensor 3 bank 1, circuit low. . Warranty repair: found chaffed wire haness and repaired wire circuit VE828(YE-OG) Harness 12C508 Near C1839. Both happened under 30K miles on my 2020 7.3

Thanks for the data point motionmatt. Mine is (sporadically) showing the P032C. I have a service manual on the way which will help guide my path forward.
