knock sensor
Is it possible to hook up to the knock sensor and run a wire into the cab of the truck with a light that would come on when the knock sensor was activated? Where is the knock sensor located on a 03 ranger with a 3.0 engine? If you could do this, you would know for sure if your truck was knocking even if you couldn't here it.

There is no knock sensor on the 3.0L "vulcan" engine.
What you are proposing is doable (on a vehicle so-equipped) if you use a fairly sophisticated scanner or tuner that can provide "real time" feedback from the various engine sensors.
