Good points. Cat says that these are high flow filters, but 2 micron is a lot to push through. Considering how big the secondary filter is, that is a lot of media, so it does look as though it can flow a lot of fuel through it. These are also filters that are used on long haul tractors, so it's not like they are some chinese unknown junk.
Honestly though, when I posted it, I didn't expect to see such negativity over a more efficient water separation filtration unit.
Cat C13 with them in tandem. Took me minutes to swap them out. Was burning about 25 gallons hour. I carry a few in the truck
I too would have a very difficult time going away from Ford's engineered system. Ford pays people good money to engineer these systems and analyze a lot of data (dealer repairs/reports, lab analysis, etc) that a small aftermarket company wouldn't have access or the funds to. I learned with our 6.0 that 'aftermarket' parts are not better 99% of the time. I actually would love to see some of these aftermarket parts have a name like 'rainbow powder puff head gaskets' and see how many people would buy them.
Totally agree. Regardless of how good an aftermarket system might be, it would surely cause problems with Ford warranty.
Ford Factory, 98% efficient at removing water vs a filter that removes 100% of water and 98% emulsified water. Would be difficult for Ford to deny warranty based on that. Arod recommends the HSM water separation kit to replace the factory one and Powerstrokes are his life.

I like Arods videos, but he has become a walking commercial lately...a lot of product endorsements. He's been pushing the S&S Gen2 DPK kit for a while now, but in a fairly new video his truck didn't have it installed...hmmm.

He dissed the SPE system even though the design is better than S&S on the feed side. The return filter setup though, S&S hands down is the best. He for some reason does not like SPE.
That reminds me, I still need to get the S&S return kit.
I've got the SPE DPK system, but just haven't had the time to install it yet. I'm still waiting on the CCV bypass kit to ship, so when I receive that I'll tackle it all at one time (since the whole upper part of the engine has to be removed for the DPK anyhow).
What I really need to shop around for, in the mean time, is one of those step-ladder creepers, lol

^ agreed, warranties claims are already hard enough to get, don't need to give them any more ammo.
I unfortunately had to walk away from a really nice 2020 right before I got my current truck due to the HSM top filter. The dealer refused to return the fuel system to stock and couldn't guarantee anyone would honor the warranty if I had issues with it on since it is a non-OEM style filter and the minor modifications to the fuel lines. I know fuel system warranty claims are a rare bird but didn't totally want to forgo any chance.
However, once the warranty is up on my truck, something like the SPE set up looks interesting.

That SPE kit on the feed side is nice looking and easy to install, getting the upper intake off will be the most difficult part as the bolts are locked into the intake and get in the way when trying to remove it. I gave up and just jammed it to the side and worked around it. I will be putting the S&S return filter in though, the SPE one is sitting on my desk in front of me, I installed one on the 2012 and it was a royal PITA, and wasn't about to tackle that again when the S&S is so much easier to install. I may consider the CCV kit too considering how much jun gets in the intake from the EGR.
Oh, to add, on the install, the instructions don't mention it, but there is a bolt to remove off the fuel rail so you can pull it away enough to install their splitter fitting. I don't remember where it is, but it is not the one that gets replaced with a spacer by the fuel filter housing.
I lost a 1/4" drive ratchet in mine, slipped down behind the turbo and landed, somewhere. All because of how little room there is, lifting the body will help, provided the bolts all come out.
