Have a quick question regarding the factory trailer TPMS/trailer camera options. I know the current option bundling doesn’t allow both to be selected (not sure if this will be fixed for job 2), but my question is whether or not there is any advantage to ordering these options from Ford vs aftermarket? Is there any specialty plug and play wiring that’s built with the vehicle or other vehicle integration (I.e. dash menu/controls) if these options are selected, or missing if not? I like the idea of both, just wondering about the pros/cons of the factory vs aftermarket options.
I ordered the TPMS option on my 2020 because I already had a Furion camera on my travel trailer. When I installed the TPMS kit I noticed it had the plug for the camera in the harness you have to install on the trailer. I found an inexpensive Ford box truck rear camera on ebay and it plugged right up to the harness ( note: this camera has a shorter cable than the normal trailer camera). It works fine through the display on the truck by selecting the aux camera button. Two problems I have is every time you change gears from reverse to forward and back it defaults back to normal views from the truck cameras and you have to keep selecting the trailer camera and It won't stay on at speed. So, I kept the Furion camera with it's separate display and leave it on even while driving. They may have changed these issues with the 2022 models but I haven't heard.
Thank you for the feedback. I presume on a higher trim model, any required “pre-wiring” will be there. I also asked my dealer, been quiet, so not optimistic about a clear answer from them 😁
If you get the Tow Technology Bundle you get the 12 pin plug to hook up the Camera/TPMS Thats standard on KR and above in 23 and optional on XL, XLT and Lariat
