I noticed a drip under the trans and noticed the fitting for the trans cooler line is leaking. (closest to the dipstick)
I ordered a new line but I was wondering if I could repair this one to avoid messing w the end that goes into the radiator. Does the flange have a normal rubber o ring inside or is it metal? Don't want to take it all apart and not have the correct part to seal it back up. Also when putting it back together would it hurt if I add some teflon to the threads?
Not to state the obvious, but sometimes the simplest solutions escape us. Guilty myself on many occasions, if I ever make it a whole day w/out calling myself a dumba** somebody probably better start digging a hole cause I must be dead. Anyway have you tried tightening the connection yet?
I did about a quarter turn. It became a little worse. Also I was told to be careful cause tightening too much could Crack the housing. I was wondering if I could take the fitting off and use a new o ring but not sure which one it needs. I tried looking online couldn't find it
Make sure the mating flare surfaces are clean and free of defects before you install the new tube. As you discovered, fittings that seal on a flare do NOT like to be overtightened.
Personally, I like to convert as many of these fluid fittings to AN flare because that is designed to be dis/reassembled on a regular basis. Most automotive flares are not. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN_thread
