I just got a trans cooler from work for my superduty and was wondering whats the best way to mount the transmission cooler on the truck and whats the best way tor run the lines. From what i have been reading i know i want to tie into the return line which i think is the far back fitting on trans so i will cut the line up at the radiator or unbolt and put a fitting in one of the two and put the trans cooler in line.Does this sound about right?I was out pulling our 30ft travel trailer yesterday and the trans temp ran about 180 with just stock trans cooling. Thanks I did some searches but it always pulls up more info then what you ask for.
not knowing what year truck you have i will do what i can (hint hint) the rear most line is the return line on a E4OD or a 4R100 i would put it inline with the factor cooler/coolers. you should not need to cut the line, near the bottom of the rad. on the passengers side the return line goes from a rubber hose to a metal line. you can just unhook it and plum in the new cooler. I also have a 2002 PSD Auto. I bought one of those 18" dual line finned aluminum coolers because can be mounted anywhere. It was on EBay. I mounted it behind grill gaurd on replacement bumper, It works great. The trans fluid in the 2002 goes from trans to cooler inside the radiator then out of radiator to an air cooler behind air conditioner cooler then out to trans. I run that line to the aluminum cooler and from it to the line back to the trans. I run it pretty hard for 20 minutes then rechecked fittings, there was a little leak at the fittings from the alum. cooler, the cooler was real hot to touch but the fluid was only a little warm. Just retightened the fitting and all was well. I have pulled alot of heavy trailers in 100 degree weather with no problems before. Probably did'nt need the extra 3rd cooler but you never know.
