engine stands/mounts

I have a 71' f100 4x4. It had a 360 in it until it died. I am wanting to put in a 460. My question is can I use the existing engine stands and just use the 460 mounts and move the stands and redrill and bolt them up or do I need to get stands from a donor truck that had a 460 in it? I would go to the aftermarket guys but $$$$$$ is a major issue right now. Thanks

If money is an issue I recommend that you rebuild the 360. Engine swaps never come out inexpensively. You could upgrade to a 390 and make plenty of power.

Yeah-

Try to put in a 460 and you'll need the tranny, too, for starters.

I thought about this exact swap a few years ago. From what I remember, you'll need new perches, new tranny and probably a new radiator, crossmember, driveshaft, etc. Because of all the ancillary mods, I elected to stay with the FE.

Good Luck.

I am not to worried about modification ,I know this will be a slow process. Can I use the EXISTING 360 engine stands and just use the 460 mounts and move the stands and redrill and bolt them up or do I need to get stands from a DONOR TRUCK that had a 460 in it? I want to stay away from the aftermarket world if I can.

When I swaped my 351 with a 460 I used the trans mount from a 77 pickup c6. Used my cross member. Had to shorten the drive shaft. Used the radiator out of the 77 as well. If you could find a crashed truck you could get all the parts from it.

Good luck.

I have the NP 435 manual transmission so all I need for it is the bellhousing as far as the cross member I do not believe I will have to chenge it out. I couldnt find any mounts that would bolt to the 460 and that would fit the stands I had. I was using the stands that were still in the truck. They use a single bolt through the top of the stand.
Does your stands use a single bolt or one that goes through the side? Take the stands loose and set the motor in and see if it will work, as long as the pan doesnt hit the cross member.

I was hoping to find someone who had done this swap with the FE so I would not have to do the r/d. If it becomes too much hassle I will just go and buy a 78'-79' f350 4x4 and build it. The 351/400 m are completely different animals than the FE .
