Not to beat a dead horse here, but I am having a minor issue when installing my 460 in a 66 F100. The engine stands were taken directly from the 78 that I got the motor from. The mount on the passenger's side bolted in perfectly but the driver's side mount doesn't line up with the holes in the frame from the old I6 stands. I bolted the passenger's side stand to the frame and bolted the driver's side stand to the engine and lowered the engine into the truck. Should I put some holes in the frame to make the driver's side stand match the location of the passenger's side or will the passenger's side have to move to make the transmission line up with the crossmember. Has anyone else run into the issue with the later-model engine stands not bolting up on the driver's side?
Thanks guys
Bluestang. What model is your truck, and is it 2 or 4 wheel drive? I think I can help you out, but I need more info. I have a 73. I have a friend with a 67, and another friend with a 65. On my 73 with a 460, the driver's side engine stand is bolted to where the top bolt closest to the cab is in the frame hole closest to the cab. Try that and let me know if the other 3 holes will line up. You need to bolt the stands in place before dropping the engine in, other wise your going to have a tough time.
The truck is a 66 F100 2wd. Since the passenger's side bolted right in, I put it in and bolted the driver's side frame stand to the engine to see where it should go when the engine is straight. The stand does not line up with any of the holes when placed in the hole you described. When I lowered the engine into the bay I was able to turn the engine a few degrees to see how the driver's side mount would slide. This one is baffling me because i thought all this was supposed to be a bolt in swap. Let me know if you got anything. Thanks again

I've done several of these and I don't remember having a problem. It's always been a bolt in for me since 65 & up. . . .
Are they OEM, or could they be aftermarket, Frame stands?
Do you have them turned right way around?
Also I wouldn't leave 'em the way you say you installed them, with 1 bolted in a OEM location, and other wherever it falls when engine is set in place. Drive line alignment & driveshaft/ pinion angle are too critical to leave it to "happenstance".
Your comment in the 1st post about drilling holes in right place, to match R/H Side is what you need to do, If you have it all correct and still can't find OEM holes. If you do it that way leave yourself a fudge factor. Elongate your holes so you can adjust a bit.
Sorry I was away last week, just got back from Western NC & Tennessee.
I am pretty sure they are factory mounts not aftermarket. Tonight I will check it out again and try to more accurately describe the issue. The truck the mounts and engine came out of was not originally a 460 truck or the 460 was not original to that truck because the engine's oil plug butts right up to the front crossmember. I am planning to clean the frame rail to be positive that there are no more holes burried. As a side note, the donor truck had 3 or 4 holes on the top of the framerail in the vicinity of the engine stand. If these were aftermarket mounts, wouldnt there be more holes?
One more thing...On Mustangs, Ford routed the fuel lines inside the framerail for I6 motors and outside the frame rail on V8s to aviod vapor lock from the exhaust. Should I run the fuel line similarly in the F100 or is this not really an issue. Thanks for your help.
When the wife gets back with the laptop, I will post a pic of this beast. Thanks again

Sorry to be such a BONE HEAD. The other day, I was actually sitting in the engine bay and I could not find the holes, much less make that engine stand line up. Today, after posting, I walked out there and lifted the engine out and while leaning over the side of the truck, I found the correct holes and bolted the stand in in about 5 minutes! I truly apologize for spreading my ignorance to the forums. Take care everyone and check out my new gallery... It's called 1966 I think
People not knowing things is what keeps these forums going. Your situation was beginning to worry me. I couldn't figure out for the life of me why it wouldn't just bolt together. Post back if you have any more questions about this instalation.
Whew!!. . . Good Job! Glad you got it worked out! ! !. . . . .
I was beginning to wonder myself how come it didn't just bolt up. Far as I know/knew they all have same, correct, holes in engine crossmember for all OEM frame stands.
I don't have problem with my fuel line, but if I did I would fabricate some kind of heat shield. I did go up to a 3/8: stainless line when I put mine back together, but I have a 79 chassis with a rear mounted in frame tank, a 3/8" line won't fit into a in the cab tank. the sender/ pick up tube will always limit the available useable line diameter.
Don't forget to use "F" Series, passenger side, exhaust manifold, Passenger car will not work on R/H Side in an F series, but they will work on the L/H Side tho.
