1987 Bronco sector shaft seals were very difficult to remove and in too bad shape to line up to identify which side is up on old seals, I know the correct order from the snap ring up is... snap ring, large id spacer, dust seal, pressure seal and spacer, but on the pressure seal, does the spring face up towards the steering box or down toward the dust seal?????
Ken
Thanks
51Fordfan lists a number of parts that are not in my package from Ford (D7AZ - 3E501-B). I've got a snap ring, a plastic(?) ring with a tapered recess on one side, the seal and a 3 inch rubber washer (which I figure goes under the lid if I take the top off to remove the sector shaft). I'm assuming that the tapered side of the plastic ring faces up with the seal spring?? Do you know otherwise??
Been a while, sorry I didn't check back sooner. That steering box fought us all the way, spring went up, reinstalled steering box worked fine for 1 days and the seals blew out again. Removed steering box again, disassembled it and got with my parts guy. Upon further inspection we determined that the box was beyond the point of rebuilding and installed a rebuilt one from reliable dealer. Has been fine ever since Thanks all
