We replaced the motor on our 88 Bronco E. B. Edition... that is good but the wiring is messed up... the fuse is good . Help the Chilton is worthless . Does anyone have a diagram or any kind of info possible please help?
ok, i had the exact same problem. i bought a new motor too, along time ago. didnt do a thing for me. so i did some testing and i finally just ended up rewiring the thing. of course i cant use my key to roll down the window right now. but hey at least it works. i didnt really care bout the the key option. but i just rigged it up so it would work. i have an 88 bronco too. hope that helped. p.s. while you are in there go ahead and grease up the window crank and mechanisms, whatever u wanna call em.
You need a wiring diagram to understand this one - find it in a Ford manual or a commonly available Haynes manual. You also need a volt meter, or a test light and a way to determine continuity. The hub for all the associated wiring seems to be the keyed switch. It's easiest to work on it with the tailgate panel off and the keyed switch unclipped so you can pull it out far enough to see it. Use a pin to ***** the insulation enough to probe for power - The two black and white wires should have 12v, the two pink wires should have continuity to ground. You can manipulate the switch by hand when it's disconnected from the tailgate - when you operate the switch, you'll get power to either the yellow w/red or the tan with black. If you have power at both, the window should be working. If you only have power at one, either the motor is bad, or the tailgate switch, or wiring upstream of the keyed switch to the motor. Many Bronco owners have bypassed the failure prone tailgate switch with a short jumper wire and two male spade connectors, as we have the good sense not to operate the window with the tailgate down. Check the two pink wires from the keyed switch for continuity to ground - don't operate the switch while you're doing this tho.... My guess is one of the grounds or power wires coming into the switch will not pass. Check the wiring loom that bends when the tailgate shuts - you might have one or two wires broken from flexing. Try some of the checks I described and get back to me - I can help you through the diagnosis.
