I Have a 1994 Frod Ranger 3.0 @wd manual trans. I am trying to replace the sector shaft seal (lower by pitman arm). I removed the snap ring Now I can't get the seal out. I tied starting the truck and turning the steering wheel with the pitman arm connected and disconnected. The seal wont budge. I read a couple posts the pressure should push it out but no luck. Please HELP!!!
If the pressure trick don't work, there is two ways of removing them. Either remove the sector shaft, then pry the seals out or you can drill two 1/8" holes on each side of the seal & screw in two long sheetmetal screws & pull out the seal with those. Just be carefull not to drill into the sector shaft or housing.
my experience with this problem is mixed...a small percentage of the time the leak will be fixed with a outer sector shaft seal replacement but Ive found the majority of the time the box needs to be replaced ....... the $20 spent on outer seals doesnt fix the leak. Just my $.02......

I tried drilling the first seal and burnt up 3 new bits and didn't even mark the seal. Or how do you remove the sector shaft? Can i do this with the box still in the truck?
