I have a 74-F100 Flareside, 133"WB, 4spd, 2WD,360 that I need assistance the rear differential pinon yoke identification. I poked around the forms and found both possibilities, but wanted to double check. I had a U-joint failure and dropped the rear driveshaft earlier this week. There looks to be a bit of damage on the pinion yoke and I would like to replace it.
I am looking for confirmation on the rear differential pinion yoke spline count. I suspect my only option might be to pull and axle or the pinion yoke to physically count, but the truck isn't in a great spot to do that at the moment.
Rear Diff & Warranty Tags for reference.
According to Fordification the diff tag indicates
Every place I have searched so far, Rock Auto, Speedway, Denny's Driveline, seems to only list 28 spline pinion yokes, nothing for 31 spline.
I think you're confusing pinion splines and axle splines. The axles can be either 28 or 31 spline from the factory. I believe all 9" Fords have the same pinion spline count.
@mikeo0o0o0 I will agree with that statement 100%. From what I have been finding, the pinion spline should be 28 on this particular ford 9". I will go with that and see what happens. - Thanks!
