Colton Brown on YouTube documents some similar experiences towing above the GCWR with the 7.3. Something around 30k+ GCWR. Through some mountainous terrain. With 3.55’s.
I have been towing a leased mini ex this summer, in the actual mountains, not the foothills. This is about 3,000 lbs over my 3.73 trucks rating of 16k. Running 7-10k feet elevation, the 7.3 pulls it just fine. 24' gooseneck rated for 15,900.
I had a 22' 7.3 and ordered a 23'. It'll be fun to compare the 2. I was a little disappointed in the mild power bump but I originally didn't expect an increase at all due to the 7.3 already being the most dominate HD gas powerplant by a good margin, especially when you can opt for 4.30 and have a 10spd.
I was personally expecting the updated 7.3L to be ~ 450hp / 500 lb-ft.
With such a mild power bump (430 hp, 475 lb-ft -> 430 hp, 485 lb-ft) I'm honestly kind of glad that my "first gen" '22 7.3L won't be considered the 'old, de-tuned 7.3L'.
That thought process is just 'materialism' and progress is good....but I'm still happy if I'm honest.
Maybe the 2025 7.3L will get more "horse torques" haha
Absolutely loving my '22 7.3L...very happy that I bought a 7.3L vs the 6.7L diesel.
Anyone know if the 6.8L will come with a forged crank or cast crank? I've seen different Ford documentation...one says Forged Crank, the other Cast Crank.

I’ll look forward to your comparison.
I’m very happy with my ‘22 but looking forward to the ‘23 7.3L.
