2018 6.2 Long/Hard Start
I am trying to help my father diagnose an issue with his truck that from my research seems to be a somewhat common problem, but cannot really find a certain solution. Truck has a little over 100k miles on it and over the last few months has seemed to be intermittently cranking longer than it should, cranking and starting but running rough momentarily until rpms shoot up to normal, or starting normally as it should. I also cannot seem to find any rhyme or reason as to when/why it does this; no correlation to full tank of fuel vs empty tank or engine being cold or warmed up.
I was able to find one video on YouTube where someone had this problem and said the culprit was some sort of check valve in the fuel system.
Has anyone else who has had this issue been able to connect their problem to this? Also, the video I watched really didn’t go into too much depth as to what fails in this component of the fuel system, and what measure needs to be taken to either fix or replace it.
If this is in fact the problem, is it a relatively straight forward repair?
Hoping someone can clear this up or point me in the right direction.
Edit: I meant to be saying purge valve, however if it is the fuel pump check valve, my questions are still the same.
Also heard it may be a fuel pump, or the truck needs some sort of software update? How does one go about doing this if that is the issue?
Sorry if this post seems a little bit all over the place, just really want to figure this out.
