I only use this truck to pull an RV so in the winter i don't use it much. I try to start & drive it every few weeks, i went out this morning, cranked it & it started, it ran for about 2 seconds & then quite. when it started it kind of sputtered like it does some times when it's cold. I cranked & cranked but nothing, it sounds like it isn't even trying to start. If this was a gas engine i would say that it's not getting any fuel. It is parked in the driveway on a slight incline, is it possible that the fuel pump lost it's prime? I have 1/2 tank of fuel in the tank that i'm using. Any ideas would be appreciated
Sounds like you did lose prime. On the fuel filter housing block there is a valve that looks like a tire valve. Push on the center, and diesel should squirt out. You can take the guts out of the valve and crank it till fuel starts squirting out.
This is a very common problem with these trucks, and if you do a search on "air in the lines" or "air intrusion" you will find some solutions to the problem. In a nutshell, the rubber components in the fuel system get old and hard and need to be replaced.
Thanks, I will check that tommorow, it would be a good thing (cheap) if that is the problem. I have had this truck for 4 years & did not know that this is a common problem.
It is common but like you said you have had it 4 years and likely they were their for awhile. If your Ts are painted grey and you can get them off with out cracking them and none are distorted I would just get some viton orings 16 of them and the proper hose and clamps and keep the gray t's, as I belive they are better quality and the orings will last longer with them than replacements.
I think it is mc master-carr that 50 viton size 111 is like 5.99 or close to that.
It is a common problem but it is not unuasual for them to last ten years or the life of the injectors.
These trucks were several years old before we ever knew it was a problem.

Just ordered some last week for my truck. A whole $6.11 for 50... bought them with an order for work so I didn't have to pay shipping lol.
The link for them is McMaster-Carr
