here we go guys,i've got a 1995 f-250 7.3 turbo dsl, i changed fuel injector o-rings because of high oil consumption, truck ran great! 6-8 months after this it developed a miss and would not start without ether cold warm or otherwise. after checking on here some of you said classic ipr problem,(thanks by the way) rebuilt ipr, now no miss, but still no start without ether warm cold or otherwise. changed mechanical fuel pump but wasted my money but i now have a spare. a couple of mechanics i talked to said it was glow plugs and how to check them, i did this and all checked o.k. except 2, also the relay and all other components checked fine. i intend to replace them but dont figure two bad glow plugs will cause it to not start at all. i am leaning toward electric fuel pump but cannot find it. the same two mechanics mentioned earlier said its on the frame rail the only thing i found was the tank switch valve which i eliminated as front tank is rotted out. is it possible electric pump is in the tank? i intend to find out in the morning as i will be dropping the tank unless some one can tell me otherwise. once truck is started it runs fine till you shut it off then it dont start. it is really starting to irritate me! if gas wasn't 4.50 per gallon here would soak it in gas and burn the darn thing.lol please help i miss my truck!!!!
I bet I know your problem...... You said the front tank is rotted out? And the selector valve is eliminated? I bet you a dollar your getting drain back. I bet the fuel is running back to the tank causing a dry line and the pump is having a hard time picking it up. I bet you anything thats it. The ether is running the truck enough where the pump is finally picking up fuel. I would check that valve out. Also, there are NO electric fuel pumps on our trucks. However, you may now need one to pick up the fuel for the mechanical. Sounds like a good time to go electric to me. I bet that's your problem. Hell, park on a steep hill, nose down and see if it will re start. Just a thought.
thanks for the quick reply. i guess i eliminated that selecter valve because i could hear gurgling in the tank after trying to start. after reading your reply, i wonder if i could just insall an inline check valve or do you think a low pressure electric pump would be the wiser thing to try? either way i hope this does the trick. thanks again.
Wow..ur right on top of things!!! Thanks..will try the check valve tomorrow and see how things go..I hope this works, I sure miss my truck!!!! Thanks again..I'll post tomorrow if I need more help..hell, I'll post a big "WOOHOO" if it works!!!
tried that..was half full..didn't have time to try check valve..had something come up..maybe one nite this week i'll be home early enough to try something...
