Well i bought the complete control arms for the front end. Has anyone replaced them. This is a 2012 f150 4x4 ecoboost. I just bought it previous owner said it needs ball joints But im just going to replace the control arm assembly's as it has 230000 miles on it. Also this is in IOWA so there is rust so taking the best route in my book. That way new bushings also. I have already replaced the brake booster pump and hose assembly. Made a mistake buy taking the motor apart on the pump man did that stink smoke had escaped. It also rattled like a baby's toy. One other thing I need to do is find out why the check engine lamp is on. I have a autel scanner so just have to do it. It also has the cam phaser start up rattle but not going to fix that at this time. Making sure that it going to be worth my time before that expense. Motors a 3.5 runs well for the miles. It may end up just being a compost hauler if its sick. If it turns out to be a good truck may repair the body with patch panels in the far future. I'm retired so income is limited
On YouTube FordTechMakuloco has a step by step video on replacing upper control arms. It’s not too bad. I’m not sure on the lower ones, but I do know there’s a large bolt at the bottom of the strut that is under high torque. I didn’t want to fight with it so I bought a ball joint press kit and just did the lower ball joints.
I just replaced one of mine last week, it was a pain because the previous owner installed a leveling kit, so i had to take way more stuff loose to get the strut out otherwise the bolts holding the uppper control arm wont come out. (the spacer leveling kit blocks the bolts) There are a couple good videos like 90ford73 mentioned above, but this is something that wasnt covered so if you have a leveling kit you'll have to do some extra work.
