I need to replace the upper control arms on my 2000 expy 2wd. Anyone do this before and have any tips etc. My chiltons book just says upper arm/ball joint serviced as a unit but does not give any info on how to do it. Also any info on cam/bolt kits for the upper arm??? Thanks cajunbull61

 

Initially I would suggest going to the parts counter at Ford and ask for an exploded view of that area. Then ask them about the cam kit.

Just curious, why do you need to replace the upper arms? I recently just had my bushings done at 325k, nothing else, are your ball joints bad?

My Haynes book shows a pretty fair breakdown procedure with pics on the cam kit and arm removal, can be picked up for about $11 at any parts store.

 

The ball joints are/were shot. I replaced the uppers and lower joints with Moog parts. The uppers are now replaceable with out changing the control arm. I did get the Moog camber kits as well. The cost was about 280.00 for parts. It wasn't as hard as I thought it might be. A few hours work except for putting the upper arms on the wrong sides. That cost me some extra time and embarrasment. Such is life.

 

At least you got it man, it takes more of a person to own up to a mistake than a coward that hides it.
