Exclamation nEW gAS tANK

I will be buying a new vented gas tank in a day or so I plan to install a return fuel system line and add a fuel regulator & A/F gauge. Now would be the best time to drill hole for line while tank is out.
Should I fill tank with water while drilling hole so the water pressure will push shavings out of tank so they will not fall into tank, or drill hole from underneath with tank on it's side. Also what non flammable fluid could I use instead of water.
I plan to use the emissions fuel line to the charcoal canister or ( just the hole if line is too small ) from tank as my fuel return.
ANY & ALL ADVICE GREATLY NEEDED

Why are you drilling the hole if you are going to use the vent line if I under stand you right?
Or
Are you doing this if the vent line is too small and if so what size line will you be installing and where?

Ok on this hole drilling is this a new tank never had flameable liquid in it?
If so then why fill it with anything? Just drill the hole and because there is no liquid in it it will be easy to get the chips out.
There are 2 ways I can think of to get them out.
1 is to use a magnet, they make them that extend and you reach in thru the sender & fill holes and fish them out.
2 is to use a vacuum to suck them out thru the sender and fill holes. You can fix a short piece of pipe or tubing to the vacuum hose to reach the chips.

Also got to ask what fuel pump you using that you need the regulator for the fuel system?

A A/F gauge is easy as long as you have a bung for the prob in the EXH where it need to be.
Because of the EFI EXH manifolds I am using on my 300 six I was able to use the O2 hole for mine.

If a hole is needed, can it not be drilled in the lid(s) of the tank?

Agree with above, used magnet and/or vacuum.

Thank-you for the genuine interest & help !!!
Later I plan to install 1 or 2 hairdryers to my engine This is why the return line, & regulator, & gauge. Until then the fuel runs cooler for now & always good to know your fuel pressure, & ratio even without hair dryers. May as well do this now while tank is out.
I got this info from a guy on youtube !!!
I will use the emissions line if it is same size as my current fuel line.
There probably will not be many shavings if I use the existing hole I am just extra careful & always ask you guys because I am constantly learning new things here so this why I ask ya'll
The older I get the more careful I get, I do overthink things many times .......oh well........I hate mistakes & they can b costly
A good vacuum & slight flush of tank will probably b enough !!! Also will have a fuel filter..........
Any more advice is always welcome

Using grease on the drill bit can help capture the metal shavings

What sort of fitting do you plan on using to connect this line to the hole you plan on drilling? In most cases when someone needs an extra hole in the tank they weld, or silver solder a 1/2 coupling on the tank then drill a hole in the tank thru the center of the coupling.
