Ford is doomed!

I was planning to order a new SD next week when the order banks opened. I have bought a new truck every year for the last 10+ years, I know financial planners come screaming, this is not a wise financial decision! However, I digress.

I called two dealerships today, one I bought 7 new SDs from and the other I bought 2 new SDs from. Both told me MSRP on all orders, no exceptions! Neither will accept X Plan. This is absolutely unacceptable in my eyes. They are making short term decisions at the expense of long-term customer loyalty.

Not only will I never buy from these two again, I'm looking at GMC and RAMs now.

Not a wise customer retention strategy Ford! You may want to study business history, Pan Am Airlines and GE would be a good place to start. This is not going to end well for Ford, such a shame to see an iconic brand losing their way!

If I am taking this too personal, please fire away! Thanks for listening to my rant!

You're taking it too personal. If they don't sell the SD to you they'll sell it to the next guy in line. There are quite a few other dealers that will work with you on pricing, it will just require you to do a little leg work and call or email around and find out. Look at the good side though, if you make a mistake and buy a GM or Ram you will only regret it a year!

I think Ford is history. I mean, if they don't sell a new SD to you every year, how will they ever stay in business?

Have some cheese with your wine. Welcome to the world of post Covid truck buying. There are hardly any on the lots and will remain that way for sometime.......................................The y will sell it to the next person who is willing to take it in the shorts. No different with GM or Dodge.

I'm puzzled as to why you would blame Ford for issues that you have with a dealership, especially the sales department of a dealership?

Ford sets an MSRP for the vehicles, but at the end of the day the dealership decides the sales price. If you don't agree with MSRP or above pricing take your business somewhere else. If a dealership doesn't value your loyalty then move on.

When my new truck was sitting on the lot waiting for the dealer to install the B&M gooseneck hitch, my salesman turned down offers daily for up to $25k over MSRP (I got it for $8k under). His manager even pressed him to try and push me out so they could sell it to someone else.

People are desperate for new trucks right now. It's nothing more than supply and demand. Gone are the days of buying any new vehicle at a huge discount any time you want.

And maybe just step back and keep your still very new truck for another year or two until things settle down.

Some jobs just wear trucks out. About a decade ago there was an article about a Super Duty truck in Florida that was owned by a non-profit greyhound rescue organization. They put ungodly miles on their truck, well over 300k miles a year. One of the forum members calculated that they were averaging like 45MPH for 20 hours a day, 7 days a week for the year.

yes, just wait a couple days and you will be ok. It’s frustrating for sure but I own a business and I will not take a discount for my services either.

everyone thought Tesla would fail because they didn’t negotiate and basically have no inventory . Now every car manufacture is copying Tesla. And if you want anything more then a lariat you will have to order /wait/ maybe delete / wait then pay more than you ever had before.

your dealerships volume may never get back to pre pandemic levels and everyone will just have to order what they want unless you get lucky and someone backs out , which they will have someone waiting.

My dealership told me last week they are basically going to eventually do away with the x plan over the next year or two on most models including the super duty .
Fast forward if we are in a nasty recession next year that x plan might be just fine but my theory is we are producing less then we were 30 years in my area (metro Atlanta) with a couple more million residence. My buddy owns a tractor supply store and he is getting less Tacheuchi skid steers right now then they got in the 90’s (he’s their biggest volume seller in ga as well).

so for people to say the fed is trying to slow down demand while there’s less supply then 30 years ago doesn’t make sense to me. Get the free/easy money out of the system / take interest rates to neutral/ fix immigration / and shocker - prices will probably stabilize / go down.

sorry for the rant

The dealer sets the selling price, not Ford. So your anger is better directed at the dealers, but charging MSRP in these market conditions is not out of line.

Discounts were given when the dealer had access to lots and lots of trucks to sell. They could take less profit on each one and still cover their operating costs. Today, the supply is very limited. The dealers must make more on each one to stay in business. The two dealers you checked out are being reasonable. Dealers that charge above MSRP are not.

It would be nice if the dealer(s) involved would recognize your buying history and cut you a little bit of a discount. If your loyalty and frequency of buying doesn't matter to the dealer than there are plenty of others to give your money to.

My dealer is 2k over sticker. I'm waiting for the change in the market. It'll come at some point. My 2019 has a ways to go still so I'll keep it.
