Electric Brake controller mounting?

Getting things back together and wanted to mount my controller but in our 73--79 not much good room I could find;
So, below is a pic of what I did to mount my Draw Tite Actuator II.
Went to JY and picked up ash tray to cut on. Still have my original in a bag.
Time consuming project.
All I need to do now is wire it up as I am cleaning under the dash anyway.
Just curious how did you guys end up mounting the controller so it is not a knee knocker???
After looking at the pic I noticed the wires,,,,This pic may be a little deceiving as the wires are in the dash and come out behind the controller. Front is a clean ash tray.
Alex

Mounted my Prodigy on left under dash back as far as I could with just enough room to release brake lever. I worked at an RV dealer in the 70's, we mounted all of them on the left. Had a lot more manual transmission then. Our newer truck is on the right and seems weird. But whatever works for you.

Good thinking, using the ash tray. I always mount them (or they are already mounted) to the far left and just out of the E-brake release handles way, on ALL my trucks that have one. Down shifting and needing to go manual on the controller is going to be interesting for you.

5851a and Rich,
Funny you both say that you always have your controller on the LEFT as I have always put them on the RIGHT
I have never had a automatic truck, always 4 speed and 4x4. I have hauled many loads in N C and N Ga. mountains and seems to work well for me..
I figure I steer with my left hand anyway and shift with the right, adjust radio with the right and adjust the controller and shift with the right which are real close to each other when on the right.
If I had my controller down by the E B release, now I would be downshifting with right hand and adjusting controller with left hand then the steering wheel with the ????? ???? LOL.
Remember I am in Ala......LOL
Funny how we all tend to operate in different ways but the outcome is that it all works for each one...
Thank you Alex

Mune have all been mounted under dash to the right this way you don't hit it getting in or out.
My pickup is the only one that is manual and in all the years pulling trailers other than pushing the **** to see if they work before starting out I can't think of a time I needed to touch the ****?
They are mounted so I can reach them.

Well left or right what ever works for you, I know you have steered with your left knee before, unless in the middle of clutching? Lol Or unless you have one of them storm proof one handable cig lighters. Jake brake switch location?

This guy has no time to be on the trailer brake controller. Lol

I steer a lot with knees, 6'4". Can't drive an early Mustang manual transmission, every time I let out clutch, I turned on right turn signal with left knee.

The engine brake on my work truck is turned on all the time on high as it has 3 settings not counting off. It is on a timer and let off the throttle and 2 second later the brake comes on. Any sooner and I had trouble rowing the gears on the 10 speed.
In 7+ years driving trailers, bulk & liquid tanker I have yet to use the trolley (trailer hand brake) brake. Only time I put it on is looking for air leaks when pretripping.

My pickup also has twin sticks LOL
NP435 4 speed and Advanced Adapters over drive where I can split each gear but some ratios are so close unless you have a heavy load it's not worth splitting all of them.
