I ran all my wiring. Now I'm ready to mount the new Prodigy brake controller in my '93 F-150. The question is...where is the best spot? My brother-in-law put his controller at the lower left of his dash. Is that where everybody puts them? I'd love to mount into metal. But I'm seeing a lot more plastic than metal down there. This is my first electric brake controller, so input is welcome. Thanks!
Isn't the controller supposed to be level or close to it? It doesn't look like it will sit level in that spot under the cubby hole. I'm going to mount my Tekonsha in my truck this weekend and was also looking for a good place to put it. I didn't see Roosters pics either. Anyone else have any pics of it there?
Here is the link to my gallery and the picture. The pic is actually showing my air bags/ compressor gauges and controls, but if you look to the upper right corner of the pic you see 3/4 of the brake controller. No it does not have to be level as it is an electronic controller not hydrolic
Thanks Rooster. I just dug out my installation instructions for my Tekonsha (which I just removed from my other truck) and it does say in it that it can't be mounted more than 20 degrees down or 70 degrees up so I guess I'll mount it in under the cubby hole. That looks like a good place for it. I started to mount it IN the cubby hole since I don't really use it anyway but the bracket is too big to fit in there and I don't want to mess around with trying to make another bracket.
The controller is so light plastic can support it just fine. The screws that usually come with it can handle several times the controller's weight even when mounted in the thin plastic of the dash.
*** notice that there is a diagnostic port under that cubby, and mechanics get REALLY ****y when you block it. Just be sure not to make it inaccessable. Mine is nearly so, but still you can get around it.
The controller does need to be almost perfectly level, however, the part that matters is internal and there is an adjustment **** that lets you set it so that it is almost level. 190 and 20 degrees sounds right for the limits. Mines closer to 120ish. (pic in profile)
Thanks Grafekie. It seems that the controller would vibrate more attached to the plastic than to the metal frame. Does that affect the controller? I did notice the port and like I said earlier, I have the 4WD shift lever down there also.
