I have this connector for the sensor but I have seen ones that connect directly to sensor. Which one do I need? Also, what does the female connector look like coming from the firewall?
That’s just a universal/generic replacement. Meant to be spliced into the existing wire after you remove the old connector.
As far as I know there is no connector on at least some of our trucks. Just the one at the sending unit and then the wire that runs into the harness.
Some vehicles, like the early bronco did have a connector at the firewall, but it was in a multiplex type, three wire connector sharing duties with the water temperature and oil pressure in ignition coil.
What year and model is your truck?
Your 78 might just have one of those multi wire connectors similar to a Molex that has removable contacts.
If so then you can make your own from start to finish. Unfortunately I’m not sure if you can buy that full harness or not from any of the reproduction vendors.
It might be out there and I’ve just never seen it.
One thing I found over the years is that the reproduction 90° push on connectors don’t often fit like the original.
They’re either too loose or too tight.
