So 2 different Ford dealers are saying they are not going to be able to do anything with my truck due to the production date being Sept. 14th, 2011. They said they don't have access to the key codes because it's older than 10 years. What am I going to do now?
Will I have to get a whole new ignition lock cylinder???
I should have mentioned this earlier. CALL A LOCAL LOCKSMITH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY CAN CUT NEW KEYS AND PROGRAM THEM FOR YOUR TRUCK FOR ABOUT HALF OF WHAT THE FORD DEALER WILL CHARGE.
I have 3 keys for mine 2 with the remotes and one valet without. I programed the valet key myself and it's not that hard. You can find directions on You Tube.
Used to work at a lock shop doing commercial door work. It is mind blowing what a good locksmith can do. Good thing they use their gift for good instead of evil.
If you have 2 keys known to the truck, then yes, you can easily program in additional keys. Without a single key available you MUST call a locksmith, they can pick the tumbler and measure the pin depth to determine a cut for the cheap plain jane key, sometimes they make 2 or 3 keys before they get 1 that can turn the tumbler, they then cut a transponder key to that determined cut and using a key programmer they put it in the PATS. Might as well get 2 made while he's there, cheapest that way.
The dealer was saying something about a KEY CODE..and that how they dump those files after the vehicle hits 10 years old...does a locksmith have to do anything with these?
I have seen locksmiths make keys for older fords. They started with a key blank and a special file. They insert the key to be made and twist back and forth gently. Then they read the witness marks on the key blank and touch the file to the witness marks they saw. I did not see squat. 2 minutes later they have a key that turns the ingition. They then compared it to a key cut gauge and cut a key by the code they determined. Less than a 10 minute process. This is a talent just like musical instruments.
GIVE UP ON THE DEALER AND CALL A LOCKSMITH. Ask if they can cut it and program it before you have them come out. We used to provide service within a couple of hours of your call.
