So I removed the breather. I’m wanting to reinstall the choke cable. There seems to be something more than just a simple manual choke mechanism. The choke will not close and I can’t figure out what’s locking it out. Then I find several capped off vacuum lines and ports. I’m especially confused by what seems is a pinched off hard line.
I could use pointers on what to do. Cold weather is approaching. it doesn’t run bad, but it dies some before it warms up.
Open the throttle a little bit while closing the choke. There is a step with a screw to set fast idle when the choke is in use usually, look on the choke side from low in front. Tapping the throttle as you close the choke gets that screw up on top of the step.
The throttle cam has at least 2 steps, pull off does part but by going to manual choke you need to have more driver input. Older vehicles had throttle and choke cables, delicate balancing act. An acquired talent. So is driving with early brake systems.

Just tapping the throttle and closing the butterfly didn't work. I'll try later to work the throttle and the choke levers.
The screw and step up cam will be hidden usually on the throttle shaft where it exits the throttle body on the passenger side. You might have to pull the carburetor and examine it, adjust the choke linkage maybe. If none is there, something is missing. Untill fuel injection, most of my cars had a manual choke, usually converted by me using a kit. My '77 has a manua choke equipped Edelbrock`1405 carburetor now, but before was a manual choke Holley 1850, but first in the '80s I converted the stock 2 bbl to manual choke.

Nice video, it is almost exactlky how mine works. His was converted using a kit with a new choke housing with cable operated lever on it judging by the pics, those kits work. Just uses a cable to do what the electrically heated one did once. Kits I've used like that retained the carburetor's original step up cams and parts on the throttle shaft.
My truck looks like it has something added to the original choke assembly to use the manual cable. I'm wondering if it was too warm today for the original side to allow the cable to close the choke butterfly.

That round black cap looking thing with the shaft sticking out and lever on it is the conversion to replace the original heat operated shaft. Also why the heat tube is crimped shut, it's no longer needed. Some carbs used a heater coil heated when elecelectricity went through it, like a light bulb to open a closed cold choke.. Some carbs pulled hot air through a tube that run to the exhaust manifold. Yours uses a cable to close or open the choke now.
