Black is the original color for this truck. I'm trying to keep the truck mostly original. The only thing not original to the truck is the engine. Like so many, it came to me with a 1967 390 in it. I decided to keep this engine and had it rebuilt.
Yeah, as I am planning out my truck as a project in a few years, I too am thinking mostly original. I too have a later 360/390 4V. Someone has been in there, but I don't know when. It's a 105 Mirror block so it doesn't even have the 352 casting that you would have. I have found a set of early valve covers, and am looking for an oil bath air cleaner, those are the things most people will see and comment on regarding originality.
I would like to add power steering, things are tight here in Germany so that is high on the list. Not sure about upgrading the breaks, but maybe a dual master cylinder for safety reasons.
What I really want to do, that hopefully won't be noticed, is switch out my C6 for a rebuilt AOD. This would make the drivability a lot more practical as we pay in the neighbourhood of $6.00 per gallon for fuel, and while some say the C6 is stronger and better, I can't imagine I will be wanting to do any standing burnouts or hauling any significant loads that would prematurely cause the AOD to fail.
Otherwise, I can't think of anything I would really want to change. Don't get me wrong, there are still a ton of parts and lots of labor to bring my truck any where near the beauty you are working on.
Looking forward to the next instalments of photo's and whatnot from your build, it is truly looking fantastic so far, and thanks for the inspiration.
Well, the Ranger is is pretty much done. Had it out on the road three times now. It's awesome!! Running great. Easy to drive, even with the manual steering. Very happy with it. Here are a few picks to share now that the interior is done. A special thanks to Ecoboostf100 (AKA Tired Old Guy) for the Ranger emblems!!
