So got a 2012 F150. Did a boneheaded thing last night. Key/Keyfob was in pants pocket. Didnt realize this until it was too late and put pants in the washing machine.
Pull pants out to find key fob.
Take battery out of key fob and try to blow dry with compressed air.
Walk outside to test if fob still works. No such luck.
Walk up to door, unlock door with key and alarm goes off. I thought id tried starting the truck it would override. Uhh Nope,
So I disconnect battery to stop horn from going crazy.
My question is how do I get the truck started? I can order a new key fob, but how do I program it if the one I have is dead?

The secondary key was lost years ago.
Please help.
Yikes, The only way to repair that is with two new keys and a tow truck to the dealer for programming.
Any update on this, I believe the key part should still work once the sealed rfid chip drys out.
next question, you do have a back-up key dont you, if not, why not?
I have let it dry out for 2 days. purchased a new battery for the remote and no luck. The second key has been lost for years now. Never though about it until you really need it.
Its looking like the first response of a tow truck ride and new fob(s) are the way its going to play out.

Before you have the truck towed, contact a local locksmith. Many of them have the tools to program Ford fobs and also work remotely, i.e. not at their shop. Having them come to your vehicle is probably cheaper than having your truck towed to a dealership.
The local lock shop may sell OEM Ford keys, too. Ask them. If not you can still get the from the dealership and get them to the locksmith.

If the key chip is so messed up from the wash cycle that it won't start the truck (key not being read), there's no way the locksmith can clone it to a new key. That's all they do with chipped keys is clone them and you can clone as many keys as you want but the truck will only see 1 single key no matter which one you use making it impossible to program any new ones if he so desires.
With 2 individual programmed (not cloned) keys you can program 6 more up to 8 total, without a trip to the dealer.
