OEM Bed Bolt Nuts

Since the OEM Ford bed bolt nuts come unthreaded, has anyone tapped them and used Loctite when installing? I don't want the trouble I had in removing them if I ever need to remove the bed again. Many times engineers are just not practical.

???????? Your talking about the 6 long bolts that go thru the bed floor ? The nuts are on clips that clamp onto the frame.. I have taken out several bolts and never had a problem with the nuts... NO LOCTITE.. In fact , i put antisieze on them when i reinstall so they will be EASIER the next time.

Thinking of using anti seize as well. Two came out, one twisted off, one the torx stripped out, the other ones just turned and never came out. They were most likely never out since it was built in 2005.

We put anti seize on ours as well . The front bolts were longer ,but all were threaded and went to clips on the frame . I believe they were all t55. But that was on a 2002 splash small truck .

Mine were all the same length and mine took the 50+ torx bit. I am using anti seize as well.

The aftermarket ones I purchased for my '11 SuperDuty had an imperfect thread in the nuts to act like a mechanical (vs a nylock) lock nut. I ran a tap through them to get rid of that nonsense. Before that I couldn't even get them close before I was afraid I was going to round the head.

I tapped the nuts and used anti-seize. Thanks to all who had input on this thread.

Really ... they come unthreaded? What is one to do, run a die down on them? I must be misreading it, my '07's are threaded and go into clip nuts that are on the frame underneath.

New OEM from Ford are unthreaded. The bolts are a type of self-tapping bolt. The bolts, as least at the beginning of the threads are not round, but slightly triangular. I guess the idea is at least the first time they are installed that process acts like a lock nut. I wanted to be able to remove them if needed, so I tapped them and used Never-seize on the bolts.
