help! We had our Excursion moved to a side yard. A welder was doing some frame work in the driveway and wala the Excursion won't start and the PCM can't be read. Sent PCM in to get diagnosed and they said it's burnt beyond repair. No idea what the heck happened. So..... ordered a rehab PCM tied to our VIN from AutoZone. Mounted and mechanic trying to get it to activate.
Anyone familiar w/ these steps???? Mechanic has a Snap On Tools scanner dealie that won't program the PCMS but will do the rest. I think he should have done a Parameter reset first on the system but I beleive he did some key reprogramming first and then the Parameter reset says can't communicate. hmmmmm.... did he bork it? is it dead? Anything we can do to back up and punt?
Anything you guys could help out a gal as this engineer is trying to diagnosis as the mechanic gave up for now and my Boyfrined (his car) is gonna kill someone.
Given that he has an Excursion, the keys will needs to be programmed to pats so the engine will start. On the 6.0 trucks, it won't even crank. On the 7.3, it'll crank but won't fire.
A locksmith or someone with an IDS can do it, but more than likely you'll need to program the pcm. Again, if someone has an IDS it's a breeze, but they'll also need "as built data" to program the blank pcm.
What caused it to fry is the million dollar question. Literally out if the blue.
we had a pcm delivered flashed to our vin and now mechanic w the scanner trying to set it up. He did some key reprogram first and they give us lights but nothing else and then realized he should have done a Parameter reset first. Going out of order I pray didn’t jack it all up. This isn’t his forte and the guys should have called the professionals.
okay guys! update... open door it bings as key is in ignition, theft light blinks slowly, turn key and all dash lights show up and theft light blinks quickly. The scanner will connect to the 10 minute security and then take you to the options.... so if it's getting past the 10 minutes does that mean we are "in"? aka keys work?
Time to find a locksmith that has the tools to deal with a PATS key system, I think.
The system has a delay so that you can't plug in and reset it and drive off with new keys.

So locksmith was amazing and came and tested for over an hour. Some things he’d never seen before but at end he said the HEC isn’t talking to the PCM. He says this is a module behind the instrument panel?? Now I’m all confused. He said we need to replace or repair that but the instrument panel repair places I see online all say that if we have a panel that lights up but a no start situation they can’t help. Good golly not sure where to go from here!!
I hate cars. Now I guess decision is now or where to get this panel worked on. Is the HEC module part of the assembly? Or so we find someplace to start testing the electrical circuits?
