My air-conditioning keeps losing pressure, and since my compressor makes a loud noise when the clutch engages, I thought I might as well replace it. Question is though, what type of compressor is this? Or does anyone know what it should be replaced with nowadays?
regards. Willem.
You left out some details like what size motor! Also there are factory installs and dealer installs which can be hard to determine. try going to RA at the link below and inter your van specs. Then search through the compressors to find a match. That doesn't mean you have to buy it there but it will tell you which one/type you need.. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ford
I looked at RA and it shows your compressor is a FS-10. Which brand to buy? I don't know if your compressor is making noise then you need to inspect the system and see if the compressor was coming apart and has spread pieces through out the system. One of the first things to look at first is the orifice tube. If the compressor is going out, the screen on the orifice tube will catch most of it. IF the screen is nice and clean, then you will be in much better shape!
The condenser catches the chunks before the fixed orifice gets the shavings
I tell my customers to replace the compressor quick if it gets noisy
If you ever need to flush one you'll know why
Just a quick question before i start replacing things:
A few months ago i replaced a Shrader valve for the AC in the front of the engiine. The valve was leaking visibly, so at the time i thought that would fix the issue of a slowly draining AC. After this, the AC went empty anyway, but it just took a few months longer. Do yo guys maybe know if there is a second valve in the system somewhere, or maybe another weak link like a valve or joint in the lines?
Well,
There are two schrader valves, one for the high side service port and one for the low side service port
Also they are made of special material for air conditioning (not sure exactly what either viton or rubber)?
Look for any oil on the hoses or connections that would indicate a leak
The high side fittings will leak more often than the low side fittings
Pay particular attention to the compressor as it is the most common leak
You should be able to rent a sniffer from Autozone et al.
Make sure the condenser has no oily spots (indicates a leak)
Good luck
thanks! i will look into it
one question though: i have replaced the high side shrader valve (i think), which i guess is depicted in the picture below.
Im having trouble finding the other valve though. Would you know its location?
