Nope the standard hooks on my trailer won't fit with my 3" receiver either.

For those of you that cannot use the receiver, what size hooks are you using?

No way I'd let that be the decider on which truck to buy. I get the truck with the things I like that can't be changed (the layout of the interior, the engine and a few other options). As long as it's got the hitch with the capacity I need, I'll figure out a way to get the trailer hooked to it. Personally, my camper hooks up just fine to the receiver but, even if they didn't, I wouldn't end up with a Ram over a $50 set of shackles.

I'll trust hammerlocks before I try to figure out WLL derating based on what part of a shackle is going to take a load at any one time...

There's a little **** on the radio, if you turn it clock-wise, all the noises suddenly disappear.

I have towed half a dozen different trailers and never had hooks that would not work. As someone mentioned earlier, some/most hooks need to come in from the back but while the holes can be a bit tight, I have never had a problem hooking up safety chains on this truck.

These are the hooks that came on the chains on my camper. I cut them off and swapped them out for some 3/8" Clovis hooks that I picked up for cheap at Lowes and hook those into the 3/4" D Rings. I will most likely be swapping out the entire chain and hooks before next summer. Who knows, I may pick up some hammerlocks by then too... what's interesting though is that there are so many different manufacturers when looking on Amazon, it's hard to know if they are really any better than the D Rings... But no way would the hooks that came on my trailer attach to either the rental 2020 F250 with 2.5" hitch, or my 2022 F250 with 3" hitch.

Edit to add: So, which hammerlocks is recommended for these hitches? Like I said, there are so many brands, and then ratings...

Are these 1/2”? Does anyone know if that’s the correct size? The capacity is plenty but wanted to make sure I got hammerlocks that fit the hitch. Thanks!
