Hpop hoses

So who got the green stripe high pressure oil pump hoses from CNC some years ago. I think I remember putting these on around 2015 or 2016 when I was doing a bunch of other work on the truck and because the ones that were on there were approximately about 168,000 miles I didn't want to take the chance of blowing one.

Plus in July 2020 when we were up at Corey's shop the old shop before they moved to the new one getting the transmission replaced and he saw those and he made a comment oh you're still using those. I was like well yeah so my question is who's used them has there been any issues I currently got about 230,000 miles on the truck so so these things have about 70,000 miles on them when I pulled the crossover line off and looked at it inside and out it looked perfect Plus on these coming off the pump going to the passenger side head you had a 90 built into it which made it really nice the other side the passenger side had the 90 where it went into the head so it was just straight connections.I get this new set and I'm going to have to take a bunch of old ones off and put a bunch of new ones on so I'm like screw that they look decen.

so my question is who's used them and how many miles did you get and what was the problem with them.

In April of 2016 I bought an HPx hose from Corey at CNC Fabrication and I am 90% sure the hose was identical to the one you have pictured above. I bought OEM HPOP fittings and hoses from Clay at Riffraff at the same time as I was doing a bit of refreshing of old parts.

Almost immediately the CNC HPx started leaking. I'm talking on the first startup. Oddly, the hose itself seemed to permeate oil through it. I contacted Corey and he got right on it.

I don't remember the specific details, so I will summarize...

He was using a brand new type of hose and the supplier was not 100% forthcoming with the specifications of the hose. Corey made it right by me and sent a "good" HPx hose out at no charge to me and paid for return shipping of the "bad" HPx hose so that he could figure out exactly what happened.

Now, this was several years ago and there is a margin of error in what I remember the hose looking like. I lost no faith in Corey, his products, his services or his ability to help a customer out. I have been a customer of his several times since then and have nothing but good things to say.

I hope this helps.

Corey is a stand up guy for sure. When i checked the hoses for crack, brittleness etc they seemed fine.. the areoquip line are rated for high temp and high pressure something like 5600 PSI with a 16k burst rating. plus they are twice as thick as the new hoses..

I decided to leave them in for now as the new hoses do NOT have the 90 deg fitting so i would need to change out 3 fitting on the head which is a PITA.. not sure the reason to eliminate the 90 end they are the deal and make replacing the system easier and easier to get on.

as for the braiding on the outside the OEM hoses i remember were braided and no issues. I did add some plastic wire loom stuff in several places there was rub or such.

I'm running CNC's stainless braided hoses now, but the other hose you have pictured is a standard hydraulic hose. You can get a wide variety of hoses, and put on the ends you need.

I'd discourage you from using the hydraulic hose because of the failure mode. We use these in our machine shop for coolant lines. When they fail, they FAIL. There is no slow leak, occasionally you will get a foreshadowing bulge to see a week in advance. They burst, and make a huge mess.

You won't have much time to see the dry rot before they completely fail. CNC has a list of "horror" photos of cracked hydraulic hoses. They don't stand up to the thermal cycling like the Teflon hose core.

Also... Your intake plenum boots look swollen from oil impregnation. You may have a boost leak there.

thanks for the update.. the boots on spider are a silicon type material and not swollen.. they look the same as when i bought the truck with 162K miles and now at 223.. the hoses show no signs of dry rot and when i bend they a bit still have flexibility like you would expect in a stiff hose. due the time chrunch I am under I decided to keep the green stripe hose on for now.. I did replace the X over in the back, and do have the new hoses and connection with me. one maybe good thing is we sorta keep to cooler area for the most part.. no AZ in summer for sure.. I will keep an eye on them as i check under the hood before heading on a long trip like the one we have coming up the end of month from NC to MN for corn silage and sugar beet harvest job.

edit... plus when Corey and I were looking under the hood in july of 2020, he saw the green strip hose and said something to the effect of.." oh you still using those lines?? " I was yeah put them on in like 2015.. there was no "call to arms" about them being a problem so I did not see the need to be concerned with them..

I installed several sets of those hoses before Corey switched to SS braided hoses. I don’t know of any failures, but I only still talk to a couple of the people who got them way back then...

Ive put LOTS of CNC Fabs SS braided hoses on. I remove every HPx I see. This is one of the dumbest mods ever created for these engines...

well at the time the cross over as a way to over come the check ***** in fittings.. now that all the new fitting dont have them it does make the X hose useless.. don't remember where the plugs are to replace them so back to hose. you remember the plug size if i ever get back in there ?? ..

Can't say I'm a fan of the bare stainless hoses. Not sure if that's what CNC has but that's what came on my truck. Once they get knicked up they enjoy cutting hands/destroying glovesand become weaker. For the truck I had a shop make the lines from hose rated at 12k working load. Will change the lines in 150-200k intervals. I've had to deal with a stock line blowing while under heavy acceleration hopefully never again!

I just took stock hoses off mine yesterday and got stabbed by a piece of wire about 50 times trying to get them out. 😂 Put a set of riff raff jic style fitting back in there place. They seem nice.

Yes, dad’s stock hoses used to wear me out with the little burrs. Ouch!

Yep. Just caught me off guard since mine has wire loom over it (factory I think). And I’m too bull headed to climb down from sitting under the hood to get the loom.
