Yep, just updated, so far so good, I like the music controls tucked in at the bottom. And I don't know if this a coincidence but used to be when I searched via voice command for locations in Waze it would return results 1000 miles away, but after the update I get good results.
Minor annoyance but where is the quick button that takes you back to sync?
The round circle at bottom left takes you to the main icon menu screen if you're viewing an app (like maps), You press Exit and you're back to Sync. No dumb second confirmation prompt.
Is this update on the phone side or the truck side? The reason I ask is that I don't see an update notification for the Android Auto app on my phone.
Phone side, I plugged mine in and it said disconnect to upgrade Android Auto. Unplugged and plugged it back in and it went through the starter prompts again.
Here was my truck screen when I plugged in this morning...Android Auto prompt to update. Can also be done through your App settings as others have said.
This is the wrong forum for a 2016 Super Duty but I believe you can update to Sync 3 using a USB drive and then Android Auto will work. Check out the previous generation forum for details on that.
The new updates are far from a copy of Apple Carplay. The only commonality I see is the list of apps in one screen similar to a phone rather than the grouping that they had in the past. There are a ton of updates that are unique, especially the way the apps can share parts of the screen at the same time but also the notifications center, the way it remembers your previous music, etc. That said, hopefully Apple & Google can get some active back & forth on features, good for all of us.
BTW, Google Maps has also done some updates in the last week that enhance its navigation behavior, independent from Android Auto itself. You'll see new buttons while navigating in Android Auto. Nothing like an automatic upgrade.
