6R80 Problems?
The weak or troubled areas are:
The torque converter, it can have lockup problems, they shudder and can cycle in and out due to internal converter leaks, like a crack in the piston for the clutch.
The lead frame, this frame is the connection to all of the solenoids and has speed sensors and the manual range sensor built into it. The speed sensors are known to fail and this causes the unexpected downshifts or no shift conditions. The manual range sensor can fail and send incorrect info to the computer, this causes a no crank situation because the computer is not seeing park. The lead frame is now available again by itself, not long ago you would of had to replace the entire valve body.
The case connector is known to leak, you have to pull the pan down to get the connector out but its a easy fix.
Having no filler tube/dipstick makes checking and filling this transmission a pain to deal with. I think there are some aftermarket options for this but I have never used them.
