I have a 2005 powerstroke and every time I change the oil it has not turned black but after putting a turbo on my truck the mechanic said he changed the oil but when it will return to me the oil was black I'm thinking he didn't change it and maybe it has something to do with the turbo going bad is raising the oil was black for someone please help me
When you drain it out of the oil pan, you will see black oil.
On the dipstick you should see brown/transparent oil (if your truck is well maintained, oil changed every 3500-4000K).
It takes several oil changes till you see "clean" oil on a bad maintained engine (oil change only every 15K or more).
Try this: take a sheet of paper and put a drop of used oil on it, next to it a drop of new oil, then you will see the difference.
Welcome to FTE. And the 6.0L forum. Pull up a seat and stay a while.
The 6.0l has a lot of oil carry over at each oil change. It's going to be blacker that a gas car do to that reason.
The first change after major work that had the oil cooler out will tend to be a lot cleaner for a while. There is just
no easy way to get all the old oil out.
Long story short : It's a diesel, it's going to get dark quickly.
